Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne

Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (March 14, 1855 - November 7, 1944), was the grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Earl was born at Lowndes Square, London, the son of Claude Bowes-Lyon, 13th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Frances Dora Smith. He married Cecilia Nina Cavendish-Bentinck on 16 July, 1881, at Petersham, and the couple had ten children.

Their ninth child, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, married the Duke of York, later King George VI, and in later life was known as Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The earl and countess were thus the grandparents of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Earl died at age 89 at Glamis Castle in Scotland (the countess had died in 1938). He was succeeded by his son, Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 15th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne.
