Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport, (also called Turnhouse) located in Edinburgh, Scotland, is the sixth largest international airport in the UK. Its IATA Airport Code is EDI. It is located 13 km (8 miles) West of the city centre.

Edinburgh Airport is owned by BAA plc, the company that also owns Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted Airport, Glasgow International Airport, Aberdeen Airport and Southampton Airport.

Recently a British Airways franchise airline, Duo Airways, announced plans to fly from Edinburgh to Milan, Zürich, and other European destinations.

Passenger Information

In 1991 2,339,538 passengers passed through Edinburgh Airport, by 2002 that had increased to 6,906,731 passengers. That represents an annual increase of 10.6%.

Future Plans

There are plans to expand Edinburgh airport by adding a second runway, although this is unlikely to be completed in the next 30 years.

The Scottish Executive announced in 2003, plans to extend a rail link to Edinburgh Airport. Currently, a bus service links the airport to Edinburgh City Centre, Livingston, Stirling and Fife.

A proposed tram route is expected to connect to Edinburgh Airport when complete in 2009
