Independence Air
Independence Air is a low-cost carrier flying out of Chantilly, Virginia's Dulles International Airport.Atlantic Coast Airlines, or ACA in short, is the former name of the carrier, which it uses when it operates with United Express for United Airlines and Delta Connection for Delta Air Lines. It uses the IATA designator DH.
ACA operates United Express flights out of Chantilly, Virginia's Dulles International Airport and out of Chicago, Illinois's O' Hare International Airport and with Jetstream 41 Jet and the Canadair Regional Jet. Their Delta Connection flights out of Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts and Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport in Covington, Kentucky are operated by a Fairchild Dornier 328.
ACA announced it will end service as a United Express carrier in 2004, and to immediately establish itself in Dulles as Independence Air. The first flight under the Independence name took place on June 16, 2004. A takeover bid by Mesa Airlines was cancelled.
Independence Air currently flies with CRJs. Airbus planes are scheduled to join the fleet in November of 2004, to fly along with the CRJs. Independence Air officals have stated, before the launch, that estimated CASM costs (CASM is how much it costs an airline to fly one seat one mile) were to be at about $0.22. In comparison, AirTran's and Southwest's costs are about $0.05 a mile and US Airways costs are about $0.105.
Its status as a United Express carrier will end August 4, 2004. Its status as a Delta Connection carrier will end on October 2004.
