Mary Baldwin Pitt

Mary Baldwin Pitt (1750January 6 1832) was the wife of William Herschel and the mother of John Herschel.

Born Mary Baldwin, the daughter of John Baldwin, she married John Pitt (not the Prime Minister of the same name), who was a friend of the astronomer William Herschel. They had a son, Thomas, who died before the age of six. When Pitt died, she remarried Herschel and they had a son, John, who also became an astronomer and was one of the leading scientists of his day.
